Tomorrow night in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, one of the biggest cards in UFC history will be taking place. Three title fights, the GOAT Women’s fighter, the GOAT featherweight, and a Welterweight headliner between two men that absolutely despise each other.
Im gonna start from the top down because this card is STACKED and there is a lot to get into. The Welterweight championship of the world is on the line as Champion Kamaru Usman defends his belt against Colby Covington in the main event. I for one am extremely excited and anxious to see this fight. I really believe that this ia a complete 50-50 fight. Both of these guys are complete wrestlers with good striking. They have both made their careers out of weighing opponents down, neutralizing their striking game and taking them to the ground and dominating. I think this fight is going to come down to whoever is moving forward on the other. Colby has made his career working off the cage, pounding opponents with volume striking, going about 60-70% and doing that for 5 rounds. It quite similar to what the Diaz brothers, Nick and Nate made famous the volume strikes just popping them and wearing opponents down rather than going 100% with their striking. I would sat Kamaru has more power and has the better chance of knocking him out but Colby’s cardio is off the charts and is one of the best in UFC history. However, Kamaru’s cardio is pretty much on par, as you can see with his previous bout vs Tyron Woodley. I really am not 100% sure on how this fight is going to play out, but i think it will go to the championship rounds and quite possibly to a decision. Side Note*I am very excited to see Colby come out to Kurt Angle’s “You Suck” theme song, the fans are going to eat that up! I am SO PUMPED for this fight!!!
Moving onto the Co-Main event which is for Featherweight championship of the world with Max Holloway defending his belt against Alexander Volkanovski. Now this fight is a liiiiitle bit different than the one i just previewed. This is going to take place almost completely on the feet and is gonna be a huge volume striking fest between two of the best in the world. Max Holloway, in my opinion, is the greatest featherweight in history. He has 14 of his last 15 fights and is currently on a 13 fight winning streak in the featherweight redemption, which is tied for the single longest streak in a single division in UFC history. Pretty wild stuff. Max is quickly launching himself into All-Time great status. The wildest part, he is 28 YEARS OLD. His opponent, Alexander Volkanovski is no joke however. He has won 17 straight fights and is 7-0 in the UFC and skyrocketed up the featherweight rankings to get this title shot. The Australian is super super talented and is coming off a highly impressive victory over the King of Rio Jose Aldo. When it comes down to this fight, i believe that Max Holloway will keep Alex to the outside, as he has done with all of his opponents to this point. Volkanovski’s striking is off the charts, but he has yet to face someone as quick and speedy as Holloway. I am not quite sure if Volkanovski can handle the pressure and output that Holloway is going to put on him. This in my opinion is a strong candidate for Fight of the Night, and i think this goes to the championship rounds as well. Fun fact* Volkanovski use to weigh 210 pounds when he played rugby in Australia, he now weighs 145 pounds. Wut.
Moving onto the third main event of the evening featuring the Women’s Bantamweight Championship of the world with Amanda Nunes defending her belt against Germaine De Randamie. Now, this one is a little more simpler for me to predict, at least i think. Amanda Nunes is the GOAT women’s MMA fighter and its not even close. She has beaten every big name in women’s MMA history, and not just beat, i mean absolutely annihilated. But, this is an interesting fight because these two women have fought before, in 2013 where Nunes won in the 1st round. Since then De Randamie hasn’t lost and earned herself this title shot against Nunes. I think she has a better shot than she did 6 years ago for sure, but Nunes has only gotten better since then and while i think this will definitely be more competitive than their last fight, i am not quite sure i can see De Randamie pulling off the massive upset. Nunes is just too dam good.
Besides the 3 main event title fights, the other 2 fights on the main card are going to be absoluter bangers. We got #1 ranked Bantamweight Marlon Moraes facing off against the King of Rio Jose Aldo, who is making his Bantamweight debut coming DOWN in weight from 145 to 135 lbs. A LOT of people have been rightfully concerned with Aldo’s appearance this week and how he has looked very unhealthy and week coming down in weight and had concerns about him missing it. He made weight this morning. I understand how dangerous weight cutting is and how it can be very messy sometimes, but we are talking about one of the greatest martial artists of all time, why not trust him when he says it’s been a good weight cut. Idk, I just know that he made the weight and i’m excited to see these two top ranked brazilians throw down tomorrow night.
We then have #4 ranked Bantamweight Petr Yan is facing off against #12 ranked 40 year old The Cali Kid, Urijah Faber. I personally am a huge Urijah fan, this will be his 2nd fight after taking a 2.5 year retirement before returning in stunning fashion over the summer with a highly impressive knockout. I’ll be honest he is stepping up in competition from his previous opponent. Petr Yan is a very very dangerous 26 year old russian with 8 straight wins and a 5-0 UFC record. I think this could be a barn burner and Urijah coming out to California Love will never get old. This will be an AWESOME way to start the Main Card.
I am really really excited for this card and I think its one of the best cards the UFC has EVER put on. Vegas is going to be popping! Its going to be so so freakin awesome and i hope this helps people see how amazing these athletes are. LFG!!!
