Alright we got 2 BIG interim world title fights going down Saturday Night in Hotlanta. Max “Blessed” Holloway vs Dustin Poirier for the interim Lightweight championship and Kelvin Gastelum vs Israel “Style Bender” Adesanya for the interim Middleweight championship have big big implications on their respective weight divisions. Lets start with Holloway vs Poirier 2.
Alright, so this is an insane fight. A LOT has changed since Poirier submitted Holloway in the first round of a featherweight bout in 2012. This actually was Holloway’s first loss. Since then tho…he is 16-2 and has won a mind-blowing 13 straight fights. Max is 27 years old and is already considered one of the best to ever do it and has a good claim to being the greatest featherweight ever. But good fucking lord Dustin Poirier has an insane resume as well. He has wins over Max Holloway, Anthony Pettis, Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje. 3 of those are former world champions. And he has never had a title fight until now.
Max was a kid when he fought Dustin and has grown into a champion. This fight will be a punching fest as these two could just stand the whole time and swing away. Max is the most relentless fighter in the UFC, he doesn’t stop, he doesn’t slow down. Poirier is not joke tho. It going to be a tough fight for Max, but he’s on a whole nother level right now, physicality, spiritually and mentally. He believes he can’t be stopped and its hard not to believe him. I have Max ultimately winning by TKO in the 4th round to become the Interim Lightweight Champion and HOPEFULLY a fight with Khabib for the world title next. Book it. Bet it. Do it.
And now for the co-main event. We gots Kelvin Gastelum vs Style Bender. This is how excited i am for this fight.
I am really really not sure how the fuck this is going to play out. My head says Gastelum but my heart says Style Bender. I am truly torn. They are both on fire. Style Bender is 16-0 and 5-0 in the UFC. Gastelum could very well make this a ground game and tire Style Bender out and put him in a position he’s never been in before. He also is arguably the best boxer in the Middleweight division. He could very well knock him out with one power punch. Howeva, Style Bender is just too good at dodging and timing it out and being patient with his moves. He’s a volume striker which could be his downfall against a power puncher. He needs more power to add to his game. Gastelum could very well just put this on the ground and demolish him, which is kinda what makes this sport so great, right, it’s not about entertaining the fans with knockouts, its about taking what you’re good at and winning with it.
Like i said before, Gastelum makes more sense to pick but i have a gut feeling about Style Bender. He is 16-0 for a reason. This is his toughest fight to date and i think he proves to everyone he is a world champion. He is going to use his range and pick him Kelvin apart. It’s mentally hard to fight a guy like Style Bender because he is always a step ahead of you. I dont see him being beat on Saturday. He is the future of the the middleweight division. I have Style Bender by decision and becoming the Interim Middleweight champion and going on to fight Robert Whittaker for the
world title. Boy, oh, boy. LFG.
